My Name is Chris DeVoy, I would like to welcome in all of our new and returning athletes, parents and helpers for the 2018/19 season.
I’m really looking forward to the year ahead and begin my role as the club coaching coordinator.
A little bit about me, I was fortunate enough to be heavily involved in a range of sport growing up in country NSW’s, it was also an added bonus that my parents owned a sport store!!!
The exposure I had to a wide variety of sport instilled a passion in all sport and this remains with me as a coach and is as strong as ever. I have carried this love of sport through to my own children and have been a devoted taxi driver 6 days a week over the last 8 years. I have coached Rugby League, Oztag and athletics predominantly, and have been involved with these sports up to a national level. Throughout this time I have participated in many coaching clinics and lectures on kids sports. It’s fair to say that the philosophy’s have changed considerably and have evolved with time. I have taken a lot of this onboard, and some I simply don’t agree with. The absolute most important thing is the kids have fun!
Followed closely by them feeling included and confident to have a turn regardless of their ability.
I have a few plans on how to ensure this happens, how to teach the basic fundamentals of movement, and then continue to develop this as they progress with athletics into the future. Keeping a smile on their face, is the best way to keep them interested in the sport.
Adaptive training and techniques is a great way to get this happening, it’s also a really good way for parents to get involved and have fun with the kids. I plan to include these activities each week in the program on Saturday and there will be regular training evenings through the weeks with a program to be issued shortly.
I look forward to meeting everyone and having a positive impact on your kids lives.
All the best!
Weekly training session is on from 5:30PM to 6:30PM every Wednesday at Woden Park.
